Search for new resonances in final states with multiple top-quarks at ATLAS

Discovering dark matter particles or other beyond Standard Model (SM) phenomena and understanding their connection to the Standard Model is one of the greatest quests in particle physics and cosmology today and the LHC offers a large range of important search channels.

In this project, we search for such beyond SM phenomena with particle-jets and leptons in the final state. The main challenge is to understand the detector and the background contribution and to isolate the signal effectively. Because most of the Standard Model processes occurring at a hadron collider contribute as a background, the analyser will also obtain a broad experience about LHC physics in general. The analysis will use the full Run 2 LHC pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment.

In order to successfully operate the ATLAS detector in the future HL-LHC runs, several upgrades to the detector are planned. This work program will also include substantial contributions to the development of tracking detector software and an improved track reconstruction for the upgraded detector. The software development includes critical aspects, such as the detector description in the simulation, the modelling of the readout chain and alignment.
