International environment

Hamburg and Lund have very similar knowledge environments, each consisting of a strong university (of almost equal size and scope) and world-class research infrastructures attracting international multi-disciplinary research communities to their sites. It is natural that these two regions – which are only 350 km apart – come closer together to maximize their scientific impacts in a closely connected Baltic Science Area. HELIOS is part of a rich and diverse cooperation landscape on various individual and institutional levels, which extends far beyond the scientific fields. Joint research activities between Hamburg and Lund have now also emerged in the important areas of life sciences, climate, earth and environmental research.
